What Does Qur'an Describe About Mountain?

|
CLICK ON THE HOLY QUR'AN TO RECITE IT .: http://quranflash.com/quranflash.html/:.

The Qur'an, the last revealed word of God ( Last Testament ), is the primary source of every Muslim's faith and practice. It deals with all the subjects which concern about human beings: wisdom, doctrine, worship, transaction, law etc., but the main purpose of the revelation is provide guidelines, detailed teaching, clarify the previous scriptures and so on. Note that the Qur'an was revealed to Muhammad p.b.u.h ( peace be upon him ) in Arabic only. So, any Qur'anic translation, either in English or in other language, is neither Qur'an, nor a version of the Qur'an, but rather it is only a translation of the meaning of the Qur'an. The Qur'an exists only in the Arabic in which it was revealed.

The Qur'an on Mountain:

A book entitl
ed Earth is basic reference textbook in many universities around the world. One of its two authors is Professor Emeritus Frank Press. He was the Science Adviser to former US President Jimmy Carter, and as the President of the National Academy of Sciences, Washington, DC for 12 years.

His book says that mountains have underlying roots. These roots are deeply embedded in the ground, thus, mountains have a shape like a peg ( see figure - right )

Then, let see how the Qur'an has described mountains. God has said in the Qur'an:

"Have We not made the Earth as a bed, and the mountains as pegs?" ( Qur'an, 78: 6-7 )

Scientists comments : http://www.islam-guide.com/truth.htm

Modern earth science have proven that mountains have deep roots under the surface of the ground and these roots can reach several times their elevations above the surface of the ground. So the most suitable word to describe mountains on the basis of this information is the word 'peg', since most of a properly set peg is hidden underneath the surface of the ground.
The history of science tell us that the theory of mountains having deep root was introduced only in 1865 by Astronomer Royal, Sir George Airy.

Mountain also play an important role in stabilizing the crust of the Earth. They hinder the shaking of the Earth. God has said in the Qur'an:

"And He has set firm mountains in the Earth so that it would not shake with you..." ( Qur'an, 16:15 )

Likewise, the modern theory of plate tectonics holds that mountains work as the stabilizers for the earth. The fact about the role mountains as the stabilizers was gather since the late 1960's.

Could anyone during the time of the Prophet Muhammad p.b.u.h have known of the true shape of mountain?

Could anyone imagine that the solid massive mountain which he sees before him actually extends deep into the earth and has root, as the scientist affirm?

.: Modern geology has confirmed the truth of the Qur'anic verses.
